EcoMachines Hosts Workshop at Resource 2015

EcoMachines was pleased to be involved in Resource 2015, the UK’s largest conference and exhibition focused on the circular economy. Speakers and exhibitors included representatives from large corporates, NGOs, waste management and recycling companies.

The EcoMachines team hosted a workshop with a focus on funding options for early stage businesses within the circular economy. There were around 30 attendees, with a mix of entrepreneurs, investors and industry representatives. The session was led by our CEO, Ilian Iliev, who gave an overview of the circular economy, and discussed what opportunities and challenges this presents for businesses. He also outlined the UK’s funding ecosystem and the comparative advantages and disadvantages of the numerous forms of funding available. The accompanying PowerPoint presentation can be viewed below.

A 30 minute Q&A session followed, and sparked a lively debate surrounding the position of UK start-ups in the global context. Questions covered the position of UK hardware businesses versus those in the US, opportunities in emerging markets, and the effects of new technologies on traditional funding systems, particularly the advent of crowd investment services. Ilian stressed that different business models suit different forms of funding, with hardware start-ups in particular often benefitting from the expertise and industry contacts provided by accelerators and VCs.

Thanks to all who attended the workshop, and do get in touch if you have any further questions.
